Columbus Crew Extend Nicholas Hagen’s Contract
The Guatemalan international will stay in Columbus for at least the next two seasons.
The Columbus Crew have inked a new deal with goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen through at least the 2026 season. The deal also includes club options for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
Hagen played for Bnei Sakhnin F.C. in Israel in 2023 before he signed with the club in the 2024 MLS offseason as a free agent
The Guatemalan international would make his Columbus Crew debut on April 13, when he replaced an injured Evan Bush versus Real Salt Lake. Hagen would go onto play in six more matches in the 2024 season, starting in all six. Hagen would conceded a total of 8 goals in his 7 appearances.
Hagen played a massive role in the Crew’s Leagues Cup championship run, starting in three of the four games. None were bigger than the Leagues Cup Final, when Nancy made a controversial decision by starting Hagen over starer Patrick Schulte. This decision would pay off, as the Crew defeated LAFC 3-1 with Hagen making 3 saves.
According to the MLSPA, Hagen has a guaranteed compensation of $100,340. It is unclear if that number will change with this contract extension.
With Patrick Schulte gathering attention from the major clubs in Europe, it was made clear that resigning Hagen was a priority. Although Hagen was also gaining attention from inside the MLS, he has found a long-term home in the capital of Ohio.
